My father would recall magical tales of the marvelous Lucky Leprechauns of his childhood growing up in Ireland.
I can remember quite clearly, having my imagination inspired as I would sit crossed legged listening intently to his tales, after which I had no doubt in my mind that these mischievous magical creatures really must exist.
He would recount elaborate tales of encountering wee creatures that lived in the countryside getting up to all sorts of shenanigans. They wore green linen jackets, velvet breeches, quirky little hats and would use magic and mischief wherever they went.
I loved to spend countless hours reading compendiums of fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm. These beautiful books of fables and folklore were illustrated with all manner of pixies and fairies, wizards and witches but none to me were more magical than those tales of the sweet little Irish leprechaun.
